Located 2 kilometres west of Roebourne, and just south of the highway. Shafts, spoil heaps, and battery footings remain.
The area contained several short lived leases, the Weerianna mine itself, and a battery which fell into public hands. One source states gold was discovered here by Steve Stewart in 1896. A company called the Roebourne Copper and Gold Mines Ltd was formed in 1901, led by well known mining identity Bob Pettigrew. A 10 head battery was erected. Pettigrew left due to ill health, the next mine manager was A.T. Wilson, then C.C. Nordin, before the deposit was considered unpayable, despite achieving 273.5 ounces from 713 tonnes of ore.
Jim Oborn is noted as owning the lease in 1909 as the Hillside mine , and some intermittent crushings occur over the next few years.
In 1934, the Weerianna Gold Mines Ltd was formed in Adelaide with 60 000 pounds capital to redevelop the mine. They state the location contains a wide lode of Fe gossan , kaolin and brecciated quartz , with a series of gold bearing quartz veins. The site had costeans and potholes only they claim. They abandoned the claims in 1937, blaming inadequate pumping equipment to keep the flow of water down, although a lack of gold may have also been a reason.
James Richard Shaw took over the leases, and in 1948 its A. Duus. The old battery came with the lease, and ownership was dependent on the battery being reconditioned.
