Government geologist A Gibb Maitland visited this location in 1907. We know North is probably J.R. North who is also found at the nearby Glen Roebourne site. Located 1.5 kilometres south-east of the Carlow Castle Mine.
Described as several east-west striking copper lodes, with little outcrop, active many years before 1907, then abandoned. The surface width of the lode at the old shaft is 2 feet at the surface but decreases to 18 inches at depth, strikes north-west, with a shallow dip south. The reef has well defined walls, with near surface copper carbonates and oxides, at depth chalcopyrite and marcasite, with the shaft bottom showing sooty black copper sulphides mixed with pyrite.
Two tonne had been shipped at 24% copper, and since another 11 tonnes. The marcasite had made the latter shipment copper poor. Further they were struggling with a large inflow of water into the shaft.
