This section encompasses several widely spaced locations in the Capricorn Ranges. They were active from 1890, and were largely abandoned by 1900. All consisted of alluvial diggings, with limited to no reef gold. About 8697 ounces of gold has been reported from the goldfield, and although not all the gold was probably reported, it still makes it one of the smallest goldfields in Western Australia production wise. The sites are widely spread, located on Mininer, Ashburton Downs, and Kooline stations.
John McCafferty from the U.S.A visited the fields in 1891, and was highly unimpressed, stating diggers were hanging on only in the hope someone would make a big find. He went on to boldly predict no dividend paying mine would ever be found in Western Australia. Ten years later, most of the world's gold at the time was being produced by Western Australia.
The government geologist during the 1890's often made his camp in the area, so quite a bit of information exists on the locations for the time. It was remote in the 1890's, its remote now, and some probably have been rarely visited during this time.
