In the period 1775-1928, the village of Fomarco was the seat of the homonymous comune, whose territory included also the Cropino gold mine (see Val Toppa Mine), on the left side of the Marmazza stream.
Furthermore, in the 1880s, two prospecting permits were active: in the area Case Toietti-Piano-Case Bardot-Case Prossi for argentiferous ores and at Piana (Alla Piana) locality for auriferous pyrite.
