A tungsten and molybdenum mine that produced 6 tons of Mo concentrate (1917-1922).
Vein/stockwork type W-Mo deposit.

Located 1.5 km north-west of the Tungsten Trench deposit, both north of Mt Mulgine, 45 kilometres east north-east of Perenjori. It is an irregular occurrence unsuitable for large scale mining. Zone of molybdenum rich minerals mined on a small scale from an adit driven into the base of Mt Mulgine from 1910-1920 (Hazelwood Mining Company source). It was explored from 1971 to 1985 by Minefields Exploration Nl, and ANZECO (Union Carbide), and this has created several shafts and exploration pits to 50 metres depth. Later exploration was for gold. The historic Highland Chief gold mine is only 1 kilometre further north.

The resource is estimated at 1 million tonnes at 0.60% Wo, in a quartz-muscovite greisen adjacent to the northern margin of the Mulgine Granite. Significant gold and silver has also been found in the deposit.

Minor fluorite is associated with molybdenum ore in Proterozoic Mulgine Granite, which is a shattered micaceous granite impregnated with molybdenite and pyrite, locally hosting veinlets and lenses of quartz and fluorite. The colour of the fluorite varies from colourless to violet black, to almost opaque.

Geochronology

Mineralization age: Archean : 2910 Ma to 2670 Ma

Important note: This table is based only on rock and mineral ages recorded on mindat.org for this locality and is not necessarily a complete representation of the geochronology, but does give an indication of possible mineralization events relevant to this locality. As more age information is added this table may expand in the future. A break in the table simply indicates a lack of data entered here, not necessarily a break in the geologic sequence. Grey background entries are from different, related, localities.
