The coordinates are for the centre of the valley.
Skorradalur is the southernmost of the Borgarfjörður valleys and lies between Skarðsheiðar, Dragafell and Botnsheiðar to the south and Skorradalsháls to the north. North of the ridge is Lundarreykjadalur, which belongs to Borgarfjarðar County, and the boundaries between the municipalities follow the watershed on the ridge. The valley is about 25 km long, but Skorradalsvatn covers most of the valley floor; it is over 16 km long and 14.7 square kilometers. There is trout fishing in it. Andakílsá flows from the lake.
The settlement in the valley was mainly north of the lake and then east and west of it, although there were also a few towns south of the lake. Now many of the towns are deserted, but instead there is quite a large summer cottage settlement in the valley, and it is expected to increase. Forestry has been practised in the valley since the middle of the 20th century, and its slopes are often forested. Stálpastaðiskógur is a large forest at the southern part of the lake.
Skorradalur is also the alternative name of an independent municipality, Skorradalshreppur.
