North Port Mine; Gorien Zinc

A large lead-zinc mine along Deep Creek. The ore occurred in redeposited breccia zones in dolomite of the Kootenay Arc. It was developed by a 850' deep incline shaft with workings on 8 levels. It produced around 850,000 tons of ore containing 15,182,000 lbs Pb, 65,621,000 lbs Zn, and 36,000 oz Ag.

Structure: Overturned Beds And Stonewall Thrust Fault Near Intrusive Contact With Granodiorite.

Deposit: Crosscutting dolomite beds led to discovery of 4 ore bodies. Pyrite halos around pb-zn ore bodies. Tremolite abundant in some ore.

Development: Econ.com: large volume of water at depth required much drilling for grout and cementing. Competent host rock permitted low-cost mining method.

Rock formation(s): Spirit Pluton-Granodiorite
Metaline Limestone

Ore(s): In Dolomite, Near Igneous Rock Contact.Ore Bodies Parallel Bedding.
