Bad Bentheim is a thermal brine and sulphur spa town in the southwestern part of Lower Saxony, Germany.

Bentheim Sandstone, also known as Bentheimer Gold, is an important reservoir rock for petroleum but also a durable natural stone quarried since about 1100 AD. It was deposited in a shallow marine basin north of the London-Brabant and Rhenish Massifs during the Valanginian.

A few examples of important buildings made of this sandstone are the Royal Palace in Amsterdam, the Netherlands, and the Church of Our Lady in Antwerp, Belgium.
