Saint Lawrence Gold Mine
South-west of the Ruby Queen Gold Mine, under which more information can be found. Some mining relics are said to be at the location.
Limited information relating to crushings found from 1886, shortly after the goldfield was discovered until 1895. It is noted in 1893, that Reginald McKinnon is owner of the mine. The mine produced 1486 tonnes of ore for 1533 ounces of gold. In 1938 there was a further 10 tonnes of ore for 0.2 kg of gold.
5 acres. The mine is located on a branch reef to the main line. The strike of reef is irregular, forming an inverted S shape. The reef is found in sandstone, striking north north-east. The reef averaged 3 feet wide, of dark blue (almost black) quartz. More gold was found where the reef was thinner. A shaft had been sunk to 105 feet, at the bottom a cross-cut to the reef. A tunnel is also mentioned, as well as poor gold values generally.
