Recently discovered massive sulfide deposit (mainly lead, zinc, silver) between Garpenberg and Garpenberg Norra, between 450 and 1450 m depth. Boliden started mining in 2003.
The Lappberget deposit is currently the main orebody of the Garpenberg mine, accounting for around 80 % of all mined ore from the mine. The mined-out tonnage in 2021 was 3.052 Mton with metal grades at 3.8 % Zn, 1.5 % Pb, and 119 g/t Ag. Seven mineralization styles for the Lappberget deposit based on textural and mineralogical characteristics: 1) Massive sphalerite-pyrite-galena mineralization (MSPG); 2) Massive sphalerite-galena-pyrite-chalcopyrite-pyrrhotite ± gold mineralization (MSGC); 3) Footwall disseminated to semi-massive mineralization (FWD); 4) Skarn-hosted sulfide mineralization (SKN); 5) Magnetite mineralization (MT); 6) Mineralized shear zones (MSZ); and 7) Carbonate-hosted Ag-rich sulfide-sulfosalt veinlets (AgD). These mineralization styles occur as vein networks, breccia infills, massive, semi-massive, disseminated, micro-veins, and veinlets. Electrum (Au 13–90 wt%) is identified as a rare or sporadic trace mineral occurring in the MSGC, FWD, MT, and AgD mineralization styles.
