Ferguson states north-east trending quartz reefs in basalt and metasedimentary rocks of the Biscay Formation, hosting Au-Ag-Pb mineralisation in small high grade deposits. The reef is 143 metres long by 1.7 metres wide in vertical to north-west dipping schist.
Two acres. Historic lease active late 1880's. The stone is banded, with chalcopyrite, pyrite, azurite, malachite, and galena. Three shafts had been sunk to a maximum of 60 feet depth, in blue shaley material, dipping slightly west. The lease contained several more small shafts, pits and trenches.
Only one tonne had been crushed for 16 dwt Au. The other mineralisation mixed with the gold would have presented great difficulties at the time for the batteries.
Many of the leases in the gold area were combined in the early 1890's, under the Melbourne floated Panton River United Gold Mining Company. A five head battery was shipped to Wyndham, then carted to the Star of Kimberley lease, but the whole enterprise was short lived.
Modern exploration note Measured and indicated JORC resources at the site of 14,500 tonnes of ore at 6.92 g/t Au, 38.8 g/t Ag, 1.8% Pb, 0.98% Zn and 0.6% Cu.
