Historic underground mine, now part of the Premier open pit, east of Collie. Developed by Western Collieries. The entrance was driven into the high wall of the Western No. 3 open cut from 1954 using labour and equipment from the Western No. 1 mine which was soon to close due to waterlogging.
Western No. 4 obtained good coal, but the mine's life was short, due to water logging.
