At Hanging Tree there is well exposed basalt volcanic facies and sandstone, overlain by ironstone, chert, and felsic volcanic facies. The deposit is near the nose of a north plunging fold. It is marked by a quartz-magnetite unit near the surface. The deposit contains disseminated pyrite and pyrrhotite hosted by chloritic schist, 60 to 80 metres below the surface. The Footwall is chloritised basalt, and Hanging Wall chlorite schist. There is scattered outcropping albitic aphyric rhyolite. Limited drilling occurred in 1992. The prospect is a few hundred metres north of the Great Northern Highway.
