Location uncertain. Maitland states the mine is 2.5 miles south of the Red
Hill mine location, and 2 miles south of the Rundle Hill location. One or both is incorrect. Marston states Cane Hill mine is 5 kilometres from Red Hill but in what direction is not mentioned. He further states maps at the time (1979), show the Cane Hill mine one kilometre further north of its actual position. Co-ordinates are as stated in Marston.

'Alongside the main road to Roebourne': this is assumed to be the Mount Stuart-Red Hill Road, a now little used track, before the North West Coastal Highway took over. Maps place a Cane River Mine, a few hundred metres west of the Red Hill Mine, or a Cane Hill Mine a few hundred metres west of the Rundle Hill Mine. Sources give contradictory information about the location of the historic mine.

It is a group of copper lodes, outcropping on level ground, for 1000 feet striking north-west. This tapers gradually into micaeous schist. It is a bold outcrop, 3 feet high, carrying much malachite in a quartz reef, dipping south-west. The quartz is traversed by minute veins and kernels of chalcopyrite.

There is large quantities of brick red coloured massive cuprite, hematite, and much chalcocite. Four shafts had been sunk on the historic lease, down to a maximum depth of 50 feet.

There are two ore shoots, 400 feet apart, the southern one 100 feet long by 2 to 5 feet wide, the northern one 80 feet long by a few inches to 3 feet wide, both dipping south.
