Ordinary Chondrite (H5; S4)
Find,1889; 147 kg

Seven meteoritic stones were found over an area of ~10 sq. km (the largest 30.6 kg). An additional 11.9 kg was found in 1920. Olivine and low-Ca pyroxene compositions (Fa18, Fs16) are characteristic of H (high iron) class ordinary chondrites. The meteorite has experienced strong shock exhibited, particularly, with pervasive small parallel fractures and some unusual inclusions. Mosaicism in both olivine and pyroxene are characteristic of S4 level shock. A cosmic ray exposure age of 6.1 Ma has been reported.

The majority of the mass [75 kg] has been held at the Australian Museum in Sydney [as of 2000]. A 13 kg mass has been at Arizona State University in Tempe for several decades with several other moderate-sized masses distributed elsewhere.

Detailed Mineral List:

ⓘ Chromite
Formula: Fe2+Cr3+2O4
ⓘ 'Fayalite-Forsterite Series'
Description: Olivine (Fa18) and Ca-poor pyroxene (Fs16) typical of H chondrites (Mason, 1974).
ⓘ Ilmenite
Formula: Fe2+TiO3
ⓘ 'Maskelynite'
Description: Plagioclase normative glass indicates that all or most of the glass is maskelynite.
ⓘ Native Copper
Formula: Cu
ⓘ Native Iron
Formula: Fe
ⓘ Native Iron var. Kamacite
Formula: (Fe,Ni)
ⓘ 'Orthopyroxene Subgroup'
Description: Very early classification as 'Olivine-bronzite chondrite' and conspicuous granulation indicate conversion of (most) pyroxene to orthopyroxene.
ⓘ 'Plessite'
ⓘ 'Pyroxene Group'
Formula: ADSi2O6
Description: Pyroxene is presumptively mostly Ca-poor orthopyroxene (bronzite), but shocked grains of Ca-poor clinopyroxene quite possible.
ⓘ Taenite
Formula: (Fe,Ni)
ⓘ Tetrataenite
Formula: FeNi
ⓘ Troilite
Formula: FeS
