Ordinary chondrite, severely weathered (H6)
Find, ~1890; 295 kg

In 1935, after receiving a small fragment of a meteorite which had been found many years before, Harvey Nininger was able to locate and excavate a 284 kg stone from a depth of about 50 cm. Some additional small fragments were recovered later from moderately large pieces which had previously been broken off. The meteorite was sufficiently intact that it could be classified as an H6 chondrite on the basis of its olivine (Fa19) and pyroxene ('bronzite') composition. However, in spite of its large mass, it does not seem to have been the subject of intensive study. Ramdohr (1973) observed only five opaques (including the expected kamacite, troilite, and chromite). A relatively brief cosmic ray exposure age of only 0.79 Ma has also been recorded.

At the end of 2016 Morland remains the most massive of over 5,000 listed meteorites classified exactly as an H6 chondrite. The main mass was sold to the British Museum of Natural History in 1958 where it remains today (283.9 kg). A 4.9548 kg specimen held at Arizona State is apparently the largest of several other smaller specimens.
