Explored by CRA in 1985, with the best gold discovery 2 metres at 1.2 g/t, then Asarco from this time to 1999, with the best gold grade 1.35 g/t. Asarco then abandoned the lease stating drilling results had been dis-appointing.

The area contains banded iron formation and minor ironstone outcrops in east-west trending low hills. These rocks dip at shallow angles north and south, with parasitic folds plunging east and west 10-30 degrees. The mine site occupies a broad shear zone in an anticline, with specular hematite in ironstone bodies in the shear.

The site contains a 20 metre shaft, but no historic information could be found. The dumps when inspected in the 1990's contained malachite and chrysocolla staining, but only trace gold.

The mine is 15 kilometres east of Tennant Creek. It can be reached by travelling along a rough track heading east of the repeater station at Tennant Creek. The site is about 2 kilometres before the Hopeful Star mine turn-off, and 200 metres south of the above track. It would appear the shaft and small dump is on a small hillock, but an on the ground inspection is needed.
