Gibbet was one of the early leases, but very little information was found on it. There was an application for forfeiture by Tomkinson and Coleman in 1949. No recorded production could be found. The mine is about 2 kilometres west of Tennant Creek. Some sources state Hill 98 and Gibbet are the same mine. Maps place Gibbet just south of the road to TC8/Chariot/Malbec West mines, and then Hill 98 at the same longitude but just north of the road.

Gibbet is at the western end of a complex east-west shear zone extending from the Tennant Creek town site. Magnetite-hematite ironstone bodies are hosted by talc-chlorite-carbonate, in the shear envelope, developed at the southern margin of the Aerodrome greywacke, where it meets finer grained sedimentary rocks.

Specifically Gibbet is said to contain disseminated octahedral crystals of martite (hematite pseudomorphing magnetite). Within the structural corridor is tight west pitching folds, with an open dome like structure half a mile south-east of the Gibbet mine. A small flat lying sheet of lamprophyre underlies the quartz-hematite lode at Gibbets. The ironstone at the mine is cut off at 5 feet below the surface , with crush breccia and lamprophyre underneath. The site contains shallow historic workings on the ironstone and crush breccia.
