Perth based TNG is steadily moving towards developing a vanadium-titanium-iron mine here, said to be one of the largest resource developments under progress in the Northern Territory. JORC estimated resource is 160 Mt @ 0.28% vanadium, 5% titanium and 23% Fe, with 118 Mt of that a Measured resource. Shallow open pits will access the ore, which will be trucked east to the Darwin-Alice Springs railway line for export from Darwin.

The mine has a planned lifespan of 17 years (from July 2015). The mine will be 230 kilometres north of Alice Springs.

It is expected that the open cut mine will extend to 2000 metres in length by 600 metres wide to a depth of 125 metres.

Vanadium is presently extracted using a salt roasting and leaching method. TNG plans to build a processing plant in Darwin, based on its own TIVAN method, where vanadium is extracted via a hydrothermal process, this same process incorporating leaching and solvent extraction. The main advantage is the one process can extract all three products the mine plans to produce - vanadium pentoxide, titanium dioxide, and ferric oxide.

The north-west trending Murray Creek Sill, which the ore body is located in, covers 20 x 60 kilometres, and consists of gabbro, olivine gabbro and leucogabbro. Tabular magnetite-rich bodies are found in a large olivine gabbro intrusion, the V and Ti occuring within coarse grains of magnetite. The ore hosts up to 50% volume magnetite in the upper part of the sill.

At the time of writing (2017) plans for the mine had progressed to the completion of the feasibility study, environmental approval, government approval, sales contracts signed, and possibly funding. It is surprising at such a late stage, with millions of dollars invested, there is so little geology information about the deposit available in the public sphere.
