The Ricketty Kate wolfram mine is part of the Wolfram Hill section of the Hatches Creek field. To reach head south along a track opposite the Pioneer mine on the Kurundi Road (Binns Track). After about two kilometres, a track branches to the east north-east, which gradually over a kilometre turns north to a 3-way intersection. Take the right track. There are two possible locations, which needs confirmation.
Ryan states it is at the north-east end of the workings, containing open cuts,
a few shallow shafts, and short adits. The track takes a semi circular route east then turning to the north ending at other workings at the base of the hill. There are small workings several hundred metres north-east of the most northern workings on the top of Wolfram Hill, with no clear access track. Mindat map will mark this approximately, until more information is at hand. Another small area is 500 metres further north-east, and is even less accessible.
Wolfram Hill itself contains 4 named groups of workings, hosted by sedimentary rock, in the Pedlar Gabbro. The hill is dissected by steep gullies, in which a lot of elluvial wolfram was obtained.
Little was found for the history of the Ricketty Kate mine. It was registered in 1916, and active probably intermittently until 1945 when the lease was forfeited for non-payment of rent. Brief mining occurred in 1952.
The reefs occur parallel to the bedding, trending north-east, dipping south by 45 degrees, 6-12 inches wide, and up to 250 feet in length. Wolframite is the only tungsten mineral found, with minor un-named Bi and Cu minerals.
