This has been added as a sub-heading merely as the nearest location for a uranium prospect. Invariably around Alice Springs, location sub-headings will involve an interesting rock site, however they are not mines, prospects, or mineral specimen locations.
The conservation reserve is 30 kilometres south of Alice Springs, accessed via the Old South Road. The 6 hectare park contains about one thousand petroglyphs, thought to be between 30 000 to 40 000 years old. They are mainly lines, circles, geometric patterns, and animal tracks, pecked out of the rock by the Arrente. It is a mens only site, the meanings behind the location remaining a secret amongst the senior male members of the Arrente tribe. For cultural reasons, it is requested no photographs be taken.
