The Luce's leases is part of the White Range line of leases, with Central and North leases bordering to the north, East lease bordering to the east, and Boulder lease bordering to the south.
Luce's contained 9 reefs, averaging 35 metres in length, and averaging 2.1 metres wide.
In 1898, eleven years after the first gold discovery in the Arltunga area, J. Byrne uncovered alluvial gold in the White Range area. However it was Henry Luce who recognised the potential for reef gold, and pegged several claims. The White Range leases were to dominate gold production for Arltunga in the late 1890's, and very early 1900's. Luce was employing about eight men on his leases at White Range.
By 1902, there were 50 miners at White Range, and about the same number of aboriginals camped nearby, mainly accessing water from wells sunk for the mines. Some were employed to speck for gold, although it seems paid little.
Luce died December 1903 at the age of 39, having discovered a decent gold mine, while not making a fortune. Production of gold dwindled after his death with a lengthy time sorting out his estate. Consolidated Goldfields of South Africa took over several leases. At the time this was a major mining company, having been gifted by Cecil Rhodes gold mines out of his estate. The company's representative was sent to inspect, then refused to comment to the media, but the outcome was they quickly abandoned Arltunga, which was always a mediocre goldfield.
Luce's White Range produced a total of 5026.71 ounces averaging 45.70 g/t Au.
