Located 2 kilometres north of the Winnecke Goldfield. Pb-Cu-Ag-Au prospect.
Located on the crest of a north-east plunging anticline. Hosted by medium grained leucocratic biotite-quartz-alkali feldspar gneisses, dipping 20-30 degrees north-east. The deposit contains two narrow parallel fissures with galena, and quartz, stained with copper carbonates. The west fissure vein is very small, while the east vein extends 400 feet. The lode is highly lenticular, but averages 9 inches wide.
South Australian government geologist, H.Y.L. Brown, stated in 1903 gold occurred up to 3 g/t. 47 tonnes of lead ore was said to have been produced, and maybe more in the 1930's, but production records are incomplete.
Central Pacific Minerals NL around 1971, tested the deposit at 2-8 dwt Au, 6-30 pt Ag, 13.1%-51.7% Pb, 2.8%-3.42% Cu.
White Range Gold in 1991 states it is a lead-silver-gold deposit, with gossanous quartz above galena and chalcopyrite, hosted in narrow shear zones discordant to foliation in gneissic rocks. The galena is said to contain considerable quantities of silver.
There are three separate workings of shafts and open cuts, each 25 metres long, shallow to 12 metres depth or less. 20 tonnes of ore was produced, with 6 tonnes shipped for treatment to Germany, although no date is mentioned, and is unclear if this figure was later than Brown's mentioned above.
No access tracks or workings could be seen. Mindat map approximate.
