Copper was discovered here in the 1930's, however exploration did not take place until the 1970's by Russgar Minerals NL. The deposit is sub-economic with probable reserves of 25 Mt at 0.5% Cu and 1% Zn. Located just south of the Florence Creek, south of Mount Mable.
The country rock is quartz-feldspar-biotite gneiss, mafic amphibolite, gneiss, malachite stained magnesium-amphibolite, schist, marble, diopside bearing calc-silicate rocks, the last containing the mineralisation.
Warren et al. states there are three rock types hosting the ore horizon (1) fosterite marble with diopside (2) gneisses consisting of anthophyllite, phlogopite, cummingtonite, gedrite, gahnite, enstatite, and sapphirine (3) and quartz-magnetite rocks.
Ore is chalcopyrite, sphalerite, with minor pyrrhotite, pyrite, galena, cubanite, matildite, and native bismuth, as patches, disseminations, and veinlets in calc-silicate rock. The calc-silicate also contains fine grained gahnite. Ore layers are irregular, lenticular, or vein like, with variable ratios of Cu-Pb-Zn, although pyrite dominates the primary zone.
On the surface the deposit outcrops prominently, showing malachite, azurite, chrysocolla, rare chalcocite, smithsonite, galena, goethite, minor gold, with a thin gossan with some boxworks.
