Köppen climate type:
Road cut and exposures of oligocene volcanics that contains zones of small amygdules filled with micro calcite and zeolite crystals. The dominate minerals in the rhyolite are calcite, quartz, and heulandite with localized mordenite. Small weathered garnets and staurolites can be found in the adjacent schists; a small pegmatite also occurs near the schist-rhyolite contact.
This is location 18 in "Rockhounding New Mexico." It is 2.4 miles E on highway 519 from the intersection of highway 519 and highway 111, just S of the small town of La Madera.
