Ordinary chondrite (L6)
Find, 1880; 4.61 kg
A stone that had been held by for over 4 decades by E.J. Dunn was presented to the South African Museum in 1929. Inspections reveal indistinct chondrules within a largely equilibrated matrix. Compositionally, bulk iron contents (20.2 wt%), equilibrated olivine (Fa24) and low Ca-orthopyroxene ('hypersthene') are characteristic of the L-chondrite geochemical group. Mineralogically the meteorite consists primarily of dominant olivine and pyroxene along with minor troilite and Fe-Ni metal. Accessory chromite, ilmenite, and zircon have also been reported.
The main mass is at the South African Museum in Capetown.
