Ordinary chondrite, brecciated (L/LL3.4; S2; W2)
Find, 1966. 7.25kg.

A single stone with a few, thin remaining portions of its original fusion crust was brought to the Kansas State University Geology Department and identified. Oxidation and fresh Fe-Ni metal were both readily apparent upon sectioning. Inman is an unequilibrated L/LL chondrite (intermediate low bulk iron) with well-defined chondrules and chondrule fragments (~70 vol%) within a dark, fine-grained and sometimes glassy matrix. Chondrules are mostly spherical with textural components predominantly barred olivine (BO), porphyritic olivine (PO), and radial pyroxene (RP). Undulose extinction in olivine and polysynthetic twining in pyroxenes provide additional evidence of shock-producing event(s). Moissanite, nierite, moissanite, and an unidentified (trigonal) silicon nitride are some of the more exotic phases found in some inclusions.

Inman is the most massive of 4 L/LL3.4 meteorites listed at the Meteoritical Bulletin Database (update of August 2015).
