Minerva is a village that lies on the southeast corner of Stark County, the southwest corner of Columbiana County, and the north portion of Carroll County. The village was named after Minerva Ann Taylor, the niece of the town’s founder John Whitacre who wanted to construct a log mill on the site. The village grew in importance because it was on the Sandy and Beaver Canal, but the canal was eventually replaced by the Pennsylvania Railroad, the New York Central Railroad and the Wheeling & Lake Erie Railroad (part of the New York, Chicago and St. Louis/Nickel Plate lines).

Minerva was founded in 1833.
