The Sirdal municipality comprises the north-western part of the Agder county, and is size-wise its largest. The administrative centre is Tonstad, situated at the north end of lake Sirdalsvatnet.

Sirdal is not known to be a source of mineral specimens, but a cluster of molybdenum occurrences in the south of the municipality, some of which were mined during the early 1900's, might be worth further study.
