This small, private quarry is located on the boundary between the uppermost levels of the Codden Hill Cherts and the overlaying Crackington Formation.
The friable, finely fractured siltstones and mudstones of the quarry contain occasional fossils, lenticular phosphate nodules (fish-bone & chiton coprolites) and what have been tentatively identified as ocean-floor manganese nodules.
There is some evidence of phosphate mineralisation at this location.
The farmer who owns the quarry, lives nearby, and requires visitors to arrange permission before their arrival. He has a zero tolerance policy towards visitors arriving without prior arrangement.
