Bacino estrattivo di Pescina-Boccanaglia, Carrara, Provincia di Massa-Carrara (Provincia di Massa e Carrara), Toscana, Italia

It is the less important quarrying basin (only 5 active quarries) of the Carrara marble district. It consists of an upper and a lower part. The upper part includes the valleys drained by Canal d'Abbia and Canale di Boccanaglia, left-side tributaries of Canale di Bucceta, with the active quarry Boccanaglia A and some inactive quarries (Canal d'Abbia, Pratazzolo A, Boccanaglia B, and Bucceta). The lower part includes the valleys drained by Canale Calacata, Canale Porcinacchia and Fosso di Pescina, left-side tributaries of Canale di Bucceta, with four active quarries (Calacata, Piastriccioni B, Piastriccioni C, and Pratazzolo B) and some inactive quarries (Piastriccioni A, Faggeta, Carbonara, and Pescina A). According to official documents of the Carrara municipal department for public works and production activities, the group of quarries Pescina B, Ruggetta (A and B), and Crestola (B and C), which are located to the south of Fosso di Pescina in close vicinity of Pulcinacchia hamlet just to the north of Torano, are considered part of the Torano quarrying basin.

The main minerals that are found in the rare marble cavities include quartz, chlorite, pyrite, rutile, and magnetite (D'Achiardi, 1905; Del Tredici, 1978; Orlandi & Del Chiaro, 1989; Orlandi & Criscuolo, 2009; Biagioni et al., 2019).
