Outcrops of Triassic volcanic rocks (melaphyres) with mineralized vugs. Located in the gully area known as Forra di Bulla/Puflerloch or Pufelserloch, formed near the confluence of Rio di Bulla/Puflerbach/Ruf da Bula with a left affluent, at the eastern foot of Bullaccia/Puflatsch/Bulacia mountain.
Although this locality is just 4 km from Ortisei/Sankt Ulrich in Gröden/Urtijëi, it belongs to the municipal territory of Castelrotto/Kastelruth.
It is a classic Alpine locality, now protected by law (collecting is prohibited), in the Sciliar-Catinaccio/Schlern-Rosengarten Natural Park.
This locality is famous for the so-called puflerite, a variety of stilbite forming spherical aggregates, often found in association with chabazite and analcime. Bukeisen (1857) proved that these spherical aggregates, previously misidentified as prehnite (Liebener & Vorhauser, 1852) and later as thomsonite (Liebener & Vorhauser, 1866), are stilbite (i.e. "Desmin", according to the ancient nomenclature). According to the analytical data (Bukeisen, 1857; Passaglia & Moratelli, 1972), "puflerite" is nowadays ascribable to stilbite-Ca.
It is the type locality for pumpellyite-(Fe3+), originally described as "highly ferriferous pumpellyite" in the form of dark green nodules showing a fibrous-radiating texture, up to 1 cm in size, enclosed in the volcanic rock (Passaglia, 1972).
