Historic gold mine.
The lease was registered as the Golden Hill in September 1882, as part of the former Prospecting Claim, the original gold discovery in the area in 1880, and abandoned after about eighteen months as worthless. The Golden Hill syndicate consisted of John Purvis, Henry Hughes, Joseph Wilson, and James Madden, all experienced miners.
They searched below the original Prospecting Claim leader, discovering a new leader, and a couple of small crushings eventuated in 1883. The Golden Hill Company was floated in September 1883 to work the Golden Hill, and newly acquired neighbouring Bonanza lease. Small amounts of gold was found, and much more exaggerated promotion of the mine in the press until March 1885 when the lease was forfeited for idleness. It was later found this section showed a portion of a reef as part of a large landslip, and as a result gold bearing quartz was not extensive either laterally or at depth.
