Cava Bomba, Monte Cinto, Cinto Euganeo, Colli Euganei, Provincia di Padova, Veneto, Italia

Abandoned limestone quarry with annexed furnace at the southeast foot of Monte Cinto. The quarry, famous for an important find of fossil fishes (Upper Cretaceous), mainly exploited rocks of the Scaglia Variegata formation, a sequence of micritic marlous limestones, calcareous marlstones, and clay marls (reddish or white-greeinish in colour). Quarrying involved also the so-called "Livello Bonarelli", a layer of grey-black to ochraceous marls and siltstones, rich in organic matter. This layer yielded pyrite nodules and veinlets. Small gypsum crystals were occasionally found.

In 1987 the quarry and the furnace were turned into a geo-palaeontological museum (Museo Geopaleontologico di Cava Bomba). The museum houses the geological and mineralogical collection of the Paduan scholar and naturalist Nicolò Da Rio (1765-1845).
