Emerald deposit, associated with ductile shear zones cutting mafic and ultramafic rocks. Emeralds occur in phlogopitites and phlogopitized talc-carbonate schists. Unlike all other Brazilian deposits, the Santa Terezinha deposit is not associated with pegmatites.

The mines were discovered in the 1980s (April 1981 according to Sauer, 1982) about 20 km (24 km according to Sauer, 1982) N of Santa Terezinha de Goiás. Around the mines, a new city was formed, which is now the administrative center of the new Campos Verdes municipality.
