Abandoned anthracite mines in the Arpy valley, on the orographic right of the Dora Baltea River, which exploited some coal lenses interbedded in the graphitic schists of the "Zone Houillère" unit (Briançonnais terrane).

Exploration works were performed around the 1840s at Les Douves, above Ruillard, and Gubelin. These occurrences, exploited during World War I, later were included with other occurrences in the "Lago e Torrente d’Arpy–Plan Rançon–Chabodey" mining permit granted to the siderurgic company Società Anonima Nazionale Cogne. In 1929, a 2495-m-long adit was excavated to connect the Arpy plain, at 1740 m a.s.l., to the three levels of the Colle Croce mine, located on the other side of the mountain (La Thuile municipality). In this way, coal was transported by railway to the ropeway terminal at 1696 m a.s.l., from where was moved down to the Morgex railway station in the main valley.
