Name(s) in local language(s):
Mina de ouro Zacarias
A gold, silver and baryte mine.
The deposit is probably of syngenetic origin, hosted in baryte-rich felsic volcanic and sedimentary rocks of Neoproterozoic age.
Located about 15 km west of the Posse Mine.
volcanogenic disseminated gold deposit
0.65 Mt at 4.36 g/t Au, 48.06 g/t Ag, 10.67% Ba
This deposit, with lenticular geometry and basic metavolcanics and chemical metasediments as host rocks, is considered to represent different kinds of sulfide- and barite-rich rocks generated in a proximal volcano-exhalative environment. Aluminous quartz– biotite schists, probably the product of metamorphism of clay – sericite-rich debris derived from hydrothermal vents, are representative of hydrothermal alteration in the deposit. Gold mineralization occurs within barite-bearing quartzite in three main zones known as south, central and north lodes. By far, the most important is the south lode which extends for about 700 m along strike, is 2 – 15 m wide and plunges at N50 –60jW. Gold content tends to be proportional to barite content. This body is responsible for ca. 90% of the total open pittable gold reserves of 650,000 t at 4.36 g/t Ag, 48.06 g/t Ag and 10.67% barite.
