GG-1 ventilation shaft
The youngest of the Cu/Ag mines of Polish mining giant KGHM Polska Miedz S.A., the first preparatory and exploration work in the Deep Głogów area started in June 2005. This shaft will be the deepest of KGHM’s 31 shafts in the Copper Belt with a targeted depth of 1340 m and diameter of 7.5 m. Preparations for the opening of a mining section in first mine field took two years. In April 2014, the first bucket of ore was extracted at the depth of 1200m from the Deep Głogów area. Infrastructure from the neighbouring Rudna and Polkowice-Sieroszowice mines is used to access the minig areas. „Głogów Głęboki-Przemysłowy” deposit is characterized by the biggest depth of orebody occurrence, the maximum deepness reach around 1385m. Geological works shows that balance mineralization is presented in all three main lithological types of ore:
- sandstone amount to 60% of industrial resources
- shale – 13%
- dolomites – around 27% .
According to the official information, the mineral resources are estimated at over 300 million tonnes with average copper content of 2.5%., about 25% of KGHM's copper resources and around one-third of its silver resources.
