Köppen climate type:
More than 100 isolated chromite occurrences, elongated lenses, following the NW–SE trend of the host serpentinized dunite, have been described in a 60 km2 area, 15 km, SE of Veria.
Chromitites at the area of Veria occur as small irregular bodies of varying sizes (5–15 m in length, 0.3–1 m in thickness) of varying morphology, often connected to one another by thin layers of disseminated chromite. They are located in highly tectonized harzburgite either within isolated dunite bodies or enclosed in narrow dunite envelope. They have been affected by intense tectonic activity, which has created faulting, folding, over thrusting, foliation and lineation of minerals. Mylonite-shear zones within the Veria ophiolites define a trend parallel to the general NW–SE displacement direction deduced from brittle shear fabrics. The most salient feature is the dominance of high-orthopyroxene peridotite and diorites, in a close spatial association with PGE-elevated chromitites at Veria.
