Macizo ultramáfico (ultabásico) de Herbeira, Complejo Cabo Ortegal, Cedeira, La Coruña, Galicia, España
Type locality of zaratite and morenosite. The zaratite from Cape Ortegal, however, was shown to be anhydrous.
Geographic note: The Herbeira ultramafic massif is located in Cedeira and Cariño "municipios". Before 1988, Cariño is part of the Ortigueira "municipio" territory. Now it is a new "Municipio".
A scheme of the “Ortegal Cape complex” is observed at http://www.xente.mundo-r.com/k59/ortegal.htm (Spanish). For Herbeira, about 90% of the massif belongs to the municipality of Cariño (aerial view, see map); the rest of the surface (cliff, mainly) belongs to Cedeira, where zaratite and morenosite were discovered (Carlos J. Rodríguez, pers. comm.).
