The Herefoss granite intrusion is a nearly perfect circular intrusion of granite in precambrian basement rocks.

This granite is not known for interesting mineral occurrences, though I doubt that much effort has been spent investigating this area, since hardly any minable ressources are known.

Müller (2006) has mapped some pegmatites within the Herefoss granite pluton.

During a field trip of the University in Bonn in August 2019, samples of the granite and pegmatite were taken south of the Heimdalsvann lake.

In a very small zone with fracturing and hydrothermal activity, student Felix Graeber found a single crystal of what is assumed to be a pseudomorphosis of iron-oxydes after pyrite.

The tiny crystal measuring 4x5x3 mm shows pentagondodecahedral faces, is dark-brown and has no luster.

Graeber donated the sample to the Evje og Hornnes geomuseum Fennefoss.
