A large nepheline syenite dike at the eastern side of Store Kufjord, going east from the sea. It can be followed in its length for a couple of kms and is about 8-10 m wide when at its widest. Several prospects are found along this dike; one of them is the locality for the famous "Seiland zircons". This locality has been referred to as "close to Stjernsund" which geographically is located further SW.
The names Thorfjord (or Thurfjord) are misnomers.

The locality was first discovered by the English geologist David Roberts in 1973.
Between 1980 and 1988, a zircon-bearing part of the dike was claimed for ilmenite (by Andreas Corneliusen and others). A large number of specimens with well-developed, deep red zircon crystals were taken out and sold at mineral shows worldwide.
Zircon specimens have also been found at other localities at Seiland but not in the same quantity as from this locality.
