The Mofjellet mine was discovered in 1866 (Bertelsberget), and operated in the periods 1852-1862, 1899-1904, 1912-1914, 1918-1920 and 1926-1987. In the period 1928-1987 the mine produced 4,4 Mt ore, containing ca. 0,3 Mt Zn concentrate, 36,4 Kt Pb concentrate, 39 Kt Cu concentrate and 206 Kt pyrite concentrate. At its most 139 workers were employed here in 1960.
Base metal (zinc, lead, copper) deposit, hosted by metapelitic quartz-mica-feldspar gneisses and amphibolites. Good specimens of hydroxyapophyllite-(K) occurred in cracks and vugs in a 20 cm wide tectonic zone, about 70 -80 m below the sea level, within one of the ore lenses (Larsen 1981).
