The Twin State Sand & Gravel quarry provides various sizes of stone. According to their company website:

The source of all of our ledge products is our quarry located in Hartland, Vermont. The rock is dark blue-grey in color and is some of the hardest and most durable around... The geologic name for our rock is Amphibolite, although in the industry it is often referred to as Trap Rock. Amphibolite is a metamorphic rock that consists mainly of the mineral amphibole and varying other mineral assemblages. Amphibolite forms at temperatures of around 1,000°F and pressures of 175,000 psi. Our particular rock is around 240 million years old and was formed during the Appalachian mountain building process. Amphibolite is commonly used in the construction industry because of its hardness and durability. It is harder than limestone and denser than granite. High quality amphibolite is sometimes quarried for building faces and counter tops, often called ‘black granite’.

The company has a sales yard just east of the quarry, across the Connecticut River in West Lebanon New Hampshire.
