These mines were exploited since Roman times, and especially lately during the first two decades of the 20th century to benefit copper, lead and silver. The mineralization is arranged in veins and is genetically related to hydrothermal processes associated with the granitic intrusion of Los Pedroches batholith. The typical mineralization of galena and chalcopyrite is accompanied with a little occurrence of sphalerite and pyrite with accessory amounts of different metals such as arsenic, nickel, cobalt, silver, and bismuth, those have originated an interesting secondary mineral association.
