Black Beauty Mine

A former surface Mn mine located in the NE¼ sec. 34, T5N, R17W. Discovered in 1953. Owned and operated by Mr. Raymond Perry (1973).

Mineralization is manganese oxides with some calcite and chalcedonic quartz, as strands and irregular masses in several lensing, parallel veins along brecciated shear zones in alternating Cretaceous or Tertiary andesite flows and tuffs.

Workings include open cut operations. This mine was worked in the early 1950's. It produced some 490 long tons of 20%± Mn ore concentrated to 40%+ Mn.

NOTE: Not to be confused with the other Black Beauty Mine located in the Plomosa Mining District. See https://www.mindat.org/loc-186556.html.
