A manganese mine located in the SE¼ sec. 24, T7N, R17W. Owned at times, or in part, by Townsend; Manganese Co. of America; Sunshine Mining Co.; and the Amplex Corp.
Mineralization is manganese oxides in a network of seams, veinlets and irregular bunches, with calcite and brecciated rock, in irregular fracture zones in Cretaceous or Tertiary andesitic porphyry and tuffaceous agglomerate. There was also manganese float on the surface and traces of beryllium in the ore.
Workings include an open cut, trench and pit operations. This mine was worked in the early 1950's and prodcued some 20,000 to 30,000 long tons of low-grade ore concentrated to some 2,800 long tons of 22% Mn. About 670 long tons of sorted 17% Mn ore was also shipped.
Mineralization is manganese oxides with some calcite
