Pleistocene–Holocene sediments, that have alternating stratified calcareous sandstone (locally named as Kurkar) and red-brown layers (locally named as Hamra), in the Sheikh Ejlin and Al Montar ridges.
Samples from Kurkar layers, collected from a site at 31° 33.48’ N, 34° 24.80’ E near al-Nawras on the Sheikh Ejlin Ridge and at Tal al-Kashef (Tal Zommo) on the Al Montar Ridge, have been studied by Zaineldeen (2010).
