Other/historical names associated with this locality:
Bure Valentin
Bure Valentin coal mine (and dump).
The Valentin mine, or Bure Valentin fed the Vieille Montagne zinc works in Valentin-Cocq.
The Valentin mine was originally part of the "Charbonage de Valentin-Cocq" created in 1828 by a merger of the Bure Valentin and the Bure Cocq-Bouxhette.
In November of 1846, Vieille Montagne took over the "Charbonnage de Valentin-Cocq" and set up a new subsidiary, the "Houillère et Fonderie de Zinc de Valentin-Cocq", under Louis-Alexandre Saint Paul de Sinçay.
In 1889, Vieille Montagne sold the "Charbonnage de Valentin-Cocq" to the "Charbonnages réunis de la Concorde" (the later "Charbonnage des Kessales").
Vieille Montagne retained the Valentin-Cocq zinc works, which supplied all the zinc white for the company and in 1912 were among the largest in the world, producing 40,000 tonnes.
The Bure Valentin was connected to the Valentin-Cocq zinc works via an underground railway line (tunnel). Coal was delivered directly to the zinc plant.
Red line, underground railway line to the VM-zinc works.
