Structure: Rio Grande Rift Lincoln County Porphyry Belt

Deposit: Upper sequence is 30 to 35 ft thick and varies from fine to coarse crystalline with beds containing abundant selenite porphyroblasts. Quarried in the early 1900s. Produced cement plaster, plaster of paris, stucco, dental plaster etc. Highway and rail access is good.

Deposit type: Bedded gypsum: marine evaporite gypsum

Geology: Gypsum is exposed in this area interbedded with limestone, shale, and clay. Gypsum beds ranged from 10 to 20 ft thick. Low purity of the gypsum, structural complications, faulting, and igneous intrusion limit the commercial potential.

Resource area is roughly 15X7 miles where gypsum comes to surface.
